How periodically clean DB records and assign periodically deadline

Hello,

1) we have collected a very big amount of DB data for points stored. We would like to assign an expiration to userpoints. I see that in every rule I can assign a deadline but I don't know if it doesn't work or it's misconfigured. For example I would like to assign to every rule a deadline of 1 year that periodocally should reset all the points for that rule. I've assigned "1 year" in the rule (and not assigned any date in the calendar field). Is it correct?

2) is there a way to auto-clean DB records for all those expired points to limit the DB amount of datas collected?
