Yes ,
Checking the gender value on the profile page makes sense,
but checking the gender for every users on crowded maps would add page load time.
Also some other sites do not use the gender fields.

So I could add it as an option in the next update

- Need help? Post the URL of the related page (eventualy as confidential info), it will help solve your issue faster.
- An error, notice or warning? report the exact message including the line number
- If you get a white page , enable error reporting and / or check your server error logs.

It's not critical but I understand that if jomsocial have control about gender it is logical that the map is the correct avatar

I'll wait for the new version. The solution you gave me at least prevents the display as an error
