Thank you for the reply.
I'll try to figure things out with the template, but it is indeed very weird that it shows up twice. Any thoughts or ideas?

Yes, I think so. My first mock purchase with US$ 10 voluntary donation showed up correctly at US$ 16.
I made a 2nd mock purchase with 0 extra donation and the counter increased from 16 to 22, which is correct.

Edit: When I cancelled the purchased from backend, it reset the counter to 0. Perfect!

I just now use your plugin on the same site (on a test server) but on Beez5 template and stock virtuemart template. The plugin still shows up 2 times!
Please advice how to fix it. Thanks.

Hello

The problem is not the joomal template, but the Virtuemart template.
to use the default VM template, temporary rename;

templates/[yourJoomlatemplate]/html/com_virtuemart
to
templates/[yourJoomlatemplate]/html/____com_virtuemart

Then the default VM template should load.
Let me know if the plugin still shows twice.

I'm using the stock virtuemart template (as stated in my previous post).

I deleted all the virtuemart overrides in the /template/html folder/

The problem is still there. It shows the output twice..

Ok, does it show twice also if you set it after the description ?
I guess I'll need FTP access to see how I can fix this.
